Additionally, with pre-sales in 160 countries, the film is expanding its global reach beyond Korea.
In Indonesia, “Dark Nuns” set a record for the highest opening among Korean films released in the country and currently ranks as the second most-watched Korean film in Indonesian box office history. In the Philippines, the movie has maintained its No. 1 position at the box office for two consecutive weeks. The film’s global momentum is expected to continue with upcoming releases in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Laos, North America, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Previously, “Dark Nuns” wwas breaking records even before its official release. Early ticket sales have sparked a frenzy, topping the charts for days. As of January 19, the film had a real-time pre-sale rate of 46.0% with 100,371 tickets sold, according to the Korean Integrated Ticketing Network. This achievement has set a new five-year record for pre-sales in Korea, outpacing major competitors like “Hitman 2” and “Secret: Untold Melody”.

Meanwhile, “Dark Nuns” star Song Hye-kyo has been dominating media attention, with every move becoming a hot topic on social media. In just over two weeks into the new year, she has surprised fans with unprecedented activities in her career—cutting her hair short, appearing on variety shows, and releasing a series of vlogs.

Contrary Situation to Song Joong-ki
The success of “Dark Nuns” has inevitably drawn comparisons with Song Joong-ki’s film “Bogota: City of the Lost”, which premiered on December 31 but failed to compete with other hits. As of January 19, “Bogota” had attracted only 419,670 viewers. In contrast, “Dark Nuns” has already sold over 100,000 tickets in pre-sales alone, with four days still remaining before its official release.
At this rate, “Dark Nuns” is expected to surpass “Bogota” effortlessly, solidifying Song Hye-kyo’s dominance in the industry.
